19, 2012By Freeman staffTHE “Capture the Catskills” slogan contest
captured the attention of the public and generated more than 3,700
entries.

The contest ended Sunday evening with 3,714 submissions, according to a
press release from the Catskill Park Resource Foundation.

The goal of the contest is to create a new slogan for the Catskill
Mountains region that will be used in a $5 million advertising and
promotional campaign aimed at attracting visitors to the area.

A panel of judges will choose the top five entries and announce them in
a press conference to be held by the end of this month. The public then
will have the opportunity to vote online for their favorite of the five
slogans. The winner of the contest, who will receive $1,500, will be
announced Aug. 25 at the “Comedy in the Catskills” benefit concert at
Belleayre Mountain.

“The ‘Capture the Catskills’ contest was created by CPR (Catskill Park
Resource Foundation) to harness the passion and creativity of Catskills
enthusiasts,” developer Dean Gitter, the founder of the group, said in
a prepared statement. “The winning, memorable tagline will be one that
captures the essence of the Catskills experience and reflects the
natural, recreational, historic and community treasures of the region
as well as the pride of the folks who continue to live and visit the
beautiful Catskills area.”

The winning slogan will be the cornerstone of a tourism and branding
campaign that will appear in marketing materials, advertising and
publicity, the press release said.

“I am thrilled at the outpouring of entries that emanated from the
media coverage to promote this incredible gem that is the Catskills,”
said Ulster County Executive Michael Hein. “Ulster County and the
Catskills are blessed with natural beauty that make (them) one of the
finest travel destinations in the world.”
